Old sails become shelter in Maui, Hawaii
Retired superyacht sails are transformed into much needed shelter on Maui, in response to 2023 wildfires.
Last year, the deadliest U.S. wildfires in over a century devastated the Hawaiian island of Maui, claiming 102 lives and levelling the historic town of Lahaina.
Our partner, Sail to Shelter, has been working on the ground in Maui to create shelter using retired maxi yacht sails on a frame of locally-grown bamboo timbers.
The spec?
To create a structure to shade both people and animals.
The result?
See for yourselves. ⬇
