Clean Sailors welcomes ILCA champ sailor Alex Van Doren as ambassador
Clean Sailors is proud to welcome Alex Van Doren as the latest ambassador to join our global movement for a cleaner sailing industry.
Since stepping into the competitive sailing world in 2021, Alex has charted an impressive journey. He began in the Topper class, earning a spot in the British Topper National Squad after a 44th-place finish at the 2022 World Championships. In 2023, he climbed to 20th place at the Topper Worlds in Ireland. A dedicated member of Oxford Sailing Club, Alex’s transition to the ILCA class was made possible through crowdfunding and community support. He has since represented Great Britain at the 2023 ILCA 6 Youth Europeans, and the United States in the 2024 edition.
Now training towards the US Youth Championships, Alex is passionate about making sailing more accessible and sustainable. He joins Clean Sailors with a strong message about the future of boat ownership and stewardship:
“I want to join Clean Sailors to raise awareness about responsible boat disposal. I'm sick of seeing boats dumped in the river, or at the bottom of the boat park, never to be used again. I hope that as a community we can seek to re-home boats instead of scrapping them, whilst also looking to make them out of better, more sustainable materials.” says Alex Van Doren.
“We’re incredibly excited to welcome Alex to our Clean Sailors Ambassador Crew. His passion for both performance and purpose reflects exactly what we stand for—protecting our waters while celebrating the sport we love. Alex’s voice on the issue of responsible boat disposal as an example, is both powerful and timely, and we’re look forward to working together to inspire positive change across the sailing community.” says Holly Manvell, founder of Clean Sailors.
We’re thrilled to have Alex on board and look forward to championing a cleaner future for sailing—together.
